Weekly figures do not exist, annual average does exist

There is no single, nationwide weekly figure for holiday home electricity consumption: CBS monitors household electricity consumption on an annual basis, not a weekly basis, and certainly not differentiated by holiday home rentals. What exists is an annual average for Dutch households in general, broken down by type of dwelling and region. This figure is a good starting point to get an idea of the order of magnitude, but it applies to a residential unit occupied year-round by a household with a consistent consumption pattern.

A holiday home differs from this in several respects, and this makes weekly consumption irregular rather than fixed. There is an empty week with almost zero consumption, there is a busy summer week with four adults who wash, cook and run air conditioning every day, and everything in between. The number of guests, season, presence of a pool, sauna or charging station, and the thermostat setting during vacancy also affect weekly variation. Therefore, it is reasonable to use the CBS annual average as a guide, but it does not predict what one specific week will actually consume.

What the CBS figure measures and what it does not

The CBS figure from the household energy consumption table provides the annual average electricity consumption, differentiated by type of dwelling, urban area and neighbourhood, based on standard occupancy. It is not adapted to short-term rentals, seasonal occupancy or variable guest numbers, and therefore does not contain a separate category or correction for holiday homes. For assessing your own consumption, your own meter or the real-time consumption overview that a guest sees during their stay remains a more direct source than the nationwide annual average.
